Little did one know that when Edward Carson wrapped a bar of chocolate to announce his granddaughter's birth 17 years ago, a business and a brand was launched with Carson Wrapped Hershey’s.
For Carson Wrapped Hershey’s, the HERESHEIS brand started it all. From the time Edward Carson wrapped the first bar of chocolate to announce his granddaughter’s birth 17 years ago, to today; the brand has evolved into something more than a birth announcement.
HERESHEIS and HEREHEIS are birth announcements that gave back. And what’s better; they are personalized, so parents and grandparents could have the baby’s name right there on the wrapper.
“It is how we began,” said Scott Frederick, now owner and president of business operations at Carson. “Everyone still feels like it is the core for the business. We have grown and evolved, but HERESHEIS is still our identity in many ways.”
Frederick said that the HERESHEIS and HEREHEIS birth announcements were the bulk of the business at Carson for a while; 90 percent of everything they sold in the beginning years. Customers loved seeing their new baby’s name printed on a Hershey’s bar, in such a well-designed way, and still do.
At first, the announcements were simple; they looked identical to the Hershey’s wrapper, but instead of Hershey's the wrapper read: HERESHEIS, and announced the new baby’s name. Over time, the brand began to evolve as Carson took steps to make the wrappers even more personalized.
HERETHEYARE wrappers were produced for twins, and wrappers became available in many different colors and styles. Then Carson released seasonal birth announcements that not only celebrated the child’s birth but also the time of year. And today, parents can even include photos of their new baby right there on the chocolate wrapper.
“We have them displayed all over the walls,” Frederick said about the baby pictures. “We get to see these cute pictures everyday it’s really cute.”
Carson now wraps chocolate for just about every holiday, weddings, party favors, corporate outings and more.
“Whether it was weddings, corporate or custom work, the business, and this entire personalized candy bar industry really began with that design.” Frederick said about the HERESHEIS brand.
And that original HERESHEIS wrapper is Carson’s most recognizable product, even today. When Edward Carson wrapped that first bar of chocolate for the first Heresheis announcement, he probably had no idea what would come of his idea or that he would create a product that people would cherish for years.
“One of the things I remember most before my wife Sharon and I purchased the Carson Wrapped Hershey’s Chocolate business, was seeing people come here to pick up their order the first thing they do is open it and look,” said Frederick. “There is something special about seeing something made just for you, and people, they love it.”
